SOCOM Confrontation Marred by Missing Features? PDF Print E-mail
Written by alien

Like any good Sony PlayStation fanboy, you're well aware that SOCOM: Confrontation launched yesterday.

This new addition to the SOCOM family was much anticipated and the hype was spurred on by a beta that allowed a large number of people to test out the game.

Now that its out, some of the people that bought it are starting to notice that some of the features they thought, and in some cases told by devs, would be in the game are missing.

The rub is many of these missing/nerfed items are not little things, they are essential features.

Here is what some people are complaining about:
  • No following friends into games
  • Clan support screwed right now (calendar, tournaments)
  • Stat system only working sometimes
  • No PS3 trophies
  • Proximity chat also lets you hear enemies talking (yes, some people don't like it)
Now to be fair, we haven't played the game yet but our list is current and was culled from several sources and people we know playing the game right now.

In the beta, Slant Six was pretty good about getting patches out the door but a lot people are asking why a "finished" game should need patches of features that should have clearly been added to the game. It's a fair question and unfortunately, the addition of hard drives to consoles is a blessing and a curse. Without the hd, consoles would be limited but the hd now allows companies to release almost-ready games and patch them when they are ready.

Honestly, at this point it's almost as bad as PC game releases. Day 1 patches, here we come.

I have it and I like the game. Sure it could use some fixing up but I'm glad they got it out the door because these "features" it does not have don't affect gameplay. As far as releasing a game not totally finished, I can accept that IF the gameplay works as advertised. Follow a friend was a beta recommendation and it's a good one. I honestly thought it would be in here and was surprised when I found it wasn't but I don't know you can say it was promised.

man your complaint of proximity chat is just lame.. its one of the best new functions, if your dumb enough to run around the map talking or blasting your music then you are dumb enough to die. it gets people to work as a team and use real tactics, if thats not what you want go back to cod4.

Haven't played yet and I'm not complaining, just pointing out that it has been mentioned by OTHER people as something they did not want/were not expecting.

I'm looking to love this game but again, just saying what it being put out there by people that have it now. I do not because Amazon in their infinite wisdom did not add this game to their release day delivery list.

How can you write an article if you havn't played it yet. Do us a favor and retire, if you are going to complain about a game and you havnt even played it. And it came out today, You have no clue what you are talking about.

Well, some people actually had the game yesterday and again, if you read properly you'll notice this "Here is what people are complaining about" not "here is what I am complaining about". Thanks for stopping by.

This is terrible reporting. If people told you the game jumped out of the case and murdered their family, would you post that also without even bothering to check what you were writing was factual or not?

I know what you wrote but lets talk about ethics, how can you report on something you dont even know is true, I could tell you anything I want about a game, and people like you are dumb enough to print it, and other people are dumb enough to beleave it. And to let you know I wont be "Stopping By" this crappy site again.

You also might want to update the screenshots there, they're over a year old and the game looks significantly different now.

If I heard from more than one person and poked around and saw supporting evidence, yep I sure would. Are you telling me this happened to you? Where? When? Are you blindly defending a game or do you have an opinion counter to what was written above? Tell me where this is wrong?

Ethics in reporting? Are you kidding? Have you read a newspaper lately? First of all, this is a blog that reports what it likes but the fact is I stand by what I have here because people are COMPLAINING about them. Go look around for yourself. Here are some examples for you:

See, complaints.

Sorry you won't be back but that's cool, it's your choice.

Also, the screens are from Leipzig in August 2008.

While the list is somewhat accurate I wouldn't put the proximity chat in there. People complain about everything but I bet there is more people who like that feature than those that dislike it. Secondly, regardless of what sites or posts you have read if you have not played it your post is based on the hearsay of someone else.

Yes, Socom, has been gimped features but considering Slant Six's support during the Beta I'm sure they are fixing the Calendar and friend list issues and will patch it, which is the beauty of patches. Downfall is we also have to wait rather then having them day 1.

you are blindly defending your pathetic opinion, but I respect that, every Xbot judge hard every PS3 exclusive and glorify the 360 exclusives

So you are saying this is all untrue rubbish? I'd hardly call him an Xbox fanboy, probably more accurate to say PC fanboy but we all have our little problems. Isn't also the point of the original post that patches are becoming too commonplace and 100% finished games for consoles are as rare as finished PC games? You're all OK with this? Not just this game, but any console game whether it's 360 or PS3.

I do agree on the Trophies, this being a 1st party IP, Im surprised Sony was not able to include this at launch, other games have it, why not SOCOM?.They better be retroactive or its going to be BS. Now proximity chat is a nice feature, because that way there wont be any more "solo" run n'gun idiots. Now you have to stick together as a TEAM, in order to maintain communication. Clans are essential, but for now we get to play the damn game already, which is what most of us want, learn all the skills and what not, then clans will be implemented correctly.
