GameStop Pushing Call of Duty: World at War Day 1 Advantage PDF Print E-mail

Remember the "Day 1 Advantage" mentioned by Activision in their September analyst call? No, well read about it here.

OK, now that you're all caught up we can report that the Day 1 Advantage program is rearing its head again, this time in the COD newsletter by the way of the folks at GameStop.

GameStop and the Call of Duty: World At War team have partnered for an exclusive pre-sell offer!

To give an advantage to the multiplayer elite on day 1, pre-order through GameStop and you'll instantly get access to the M1A1 Carbine Assault Rifle! The M1A1 is a high-level (65!) assault rifle which you can have from the moment you start playing multiplayer.

So, out of the box you'll get a rifle that you wouldn't ordinarily get until level 65. Wow, how do you feel about that?

Of course the Day 1 Advantage was also controversial because it mentioned a gamer can purchase that will accelerate their experience point earning. Now we are seeing this mentioned again but this time instead of Activision saying it, it's GameStop. The following image contains this (in addition to another high level gun...)

Double Experience: Take advantage of a week of double experience in multiplayer to accelerate your advancement. (Limited time offer. Exact date for week of double experience will be announced on CallOfDuty.com, register online to receive confirmation of date and time and other key information.)

Now they DO NOT say only people purchasing the Limited Edition will get the accelerated points so it's likely they will provide them to everyone. There is no denying the more advanced/powerful guns will give some people an unfair advantage right out of the gate. Of course the good COD4 players don't need the upgraded weapons but still, is this something we want to see more of in games? EA has been running with this model (see Battlefield: Bad Company...) and now Activision in COD World at War so the answer is yep, get used to it.
