We're not sure we support the headline but a site that watches prices on used games certainly does. The folks over at Videogamepricecharts.com track sites like eBay, Amazon and others to keep tabs on used game prices. From this they put together a nifty chart like the one on the right. What this chart is showing us is that year-over-year average price has declined from 2007-2008.
There are a lot more factors to consider such as new titles coming out, age of systems and games on the market, etc. Still, a casual glance at the chart and the time-frame does seem to coincide with the sub-prime meltdown the U.S. and the broader world economies are dealing with.
One thing we can agree with, according to the data, if you're in the market to buy used games, November is a pretty good month to do it.

Major Nelson just posted the top-twenty games played on Xbox LIVE for 2008 and if a game didn't make the list it must have sucked...OK, maybe not but the list does include the big games for the year with a few notable exceptions.

Microsoft released some Euro holiday sales data today and it looks like the Xbox 360 had a pretty good Christmas.
Xbox® today revealed sales data showing Christmas 2008 was the biggest sales period ever in the brand’s six-year European history, with sales of Xbox 360™ almost double those of Christmas 2007. Eight million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) up to the end of 2008, widening its lead over PlayStation 3 in the region to more than one million and setting the scene for further growth in 2009.
Nice how they put that dig in about the PS3 in there at the end right?
Just the other day we posted some NPD numbers about console adoption and if you take the Xbox number (17.2 million units), almost half of those are from Europe - that's pretty cool no? |
