While you can't join a COD: World at War PC beta server yet, you can start your own and poke around on the three maps (Castle, Makin and Roundhouse). These are the same maps as the Xbox 360 beta but the details have been bumped way up even though the screen resolution is capped at 1024x768. It's just what you'd expect from the COD4 engine.
Enjoy the random screens, there's at least one overview of each map.

After posting earlier in the day that the 1.20 client patch was undergoing final testing, Sony has updated the news to tell us the patch is a go on Wednesday
We are happy to announce that the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.20 Update will be released on Wednesday, October 29th, at 1200 GMT/UTC (8am EDT, 5am PDT, 1pm BST, 9pm JST).
In addition to this good news, they've also released patch notes that tell us what is being fixed and that includes:
- Fixed many issues which would cause the game to crash, hang, disconnect and exit to the PS3 XMB.
- Fixed an issue which would cause large numbers of players in a high player count game to be simultaneously disconnected.
- Fixed an issue which would cause players to be invincible.
- Fixed a physics issue which would cause players to occasionally "warp" around on the map.
- Fixed an issue where a "corrupt save data" message would be incorrectly displayed after updating the game.
- Fixed some player model issues related to team swapping.
- Client/server optimization.
- Fixed an issue where the scope camera had an incorrect offset from the barrel of the gun while prone or leaning/peeking.
This should go a long way to making some gamers happy. Of course it should never have been pushed out the door like this but with R2 on the way, they had little choice from a marketing standpoint. That's big business for ya.

Sony was nice enough to send along an email reminding us that the R2 beta is ending this Thursday, October 30th. Better get some time in while you can...unless you're playing any of the other great games that came out this week. No worries, Resistance 2 hits next week anyway.

Call of Duty: World at War is now unlocked. Sweet. Technically, you'll get your key from callofduty.com in your profile or if you're really lucky, they emailed you one (like they were supposed to...).

Sony just updated the official SOCOM site with some information about the much-needed SOCOM: Confrontation patches. They are working hard on the server issues as you'll see in the statement and the client patch appears to be final testing. Hopefully they will be able to wrap this up and start focusing on additional content...one thing at a time though.
...Since the launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation in North America, we've been working to address the server and stability issues in order to get them resolved ASAP. We have a team of close to 100 people working to get the issues resolved....On the game client side, we are in acceptance testing for the 1.20 SOCOM: Confrontation game update. |

Eidos has unleashed Lara Croft's next adventure, Tomb Raider: Underworld, on XBLIVE today. Users can grab the demo (providing they have Gold level status.
We've put some screenshots below but they are not new so don't yell at us. Still, they're pretty sweet.
The full version of the game is set to be released on November 18th for PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.
