As the rumors start pouring out that Lite-On will be manufacturing the Blu-Ray drives for Microsoft's Xbox 360, it's becoming clear that in order to keep the price down to where people will adopt the new drive (especially after getting burned on the HD-DVD one...), Microsoft will likely have to sell it at a loss.
If, as previously reported, Microsoft adopts built-in Blu-ray Disc (BD)-ROM drives for a new version of its Xbox 360, sales prices are likely to be lower than the corresponding production costs since current OEM quotes for BD-ROM drives are as high as US-100, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
According to DigiTimes, there are thought's that Sony might limit parts to certain partners that help Microsoft develop the drive. Hmmm, yeah, I can see that too.
