Leet-sauce It's free so that's good.
Ranking system.
Lot's of weapon choices and character tweaks.
You can buy upgrades for real $ if you suck.
It's got a decent amount of game modes and maps.
It's an FPS.

4-noobs The graphics are beyond bad - worse than WarRock bad.
You can pay for upgrades if you suck - noobfest.
Character movement jerky.
Frames locked to 60 - no reason a game that looks this bad can't go higher.
Screen resolution caps at 1024x768.

Review Cross Fire is a free-to-play game not unlike War Rock or Combat Arms. It also uses the same type of gameplay and upgrade system. The download was about 1.16GB but it went quickly enough (broadband connection) and signing up for an account is easy enough and doesn't even require a confirmation email so that was nice. Once installed you're taken to the lobby where you can check out your kit, your clan, your friends or mess with your settings.

The settings are weak and screen resolution even on "high" limits you to 1024x768 and 60fps - that is just downright sad. The lobby graphics are fine, they look good. The game graphics though are terrible. This makes Counter Strike look like Crysis - it's that bad. On top of the awful graphics, the character movement is herky-jerky and you feel slightly disconnected. The controls are the standard PC FPS keys but it just doesn't feel right in action. Strafing is not so good and that's really bad for a game that has characters moving around so fast.

Get a kill and you'll get a little on-screen notice. Headshots get you the fairly standard "HEADSHOT" notice. There is spawn protection and you'll need it because the rounds I played had massive amounts of spawn camping. Overall, the gameplay action was among the worst I've seen since I toyed around with War Rock.

You can rank up by playing and this will also earn you game currency. If you are impatient or not very good, you can add game funds with real money. Some might like this, some might not. I like the fact that it's flexible if you want that new weapon or a heavier armored kit you can get it even if you haven't played for awhile. Unfortunately, this also allows players with more money than sense to buy an amazing kit that it'll take some skill to overcome.

In the end, you just shouldn't waste your time playing this game. Even with the haxors and general shenanigans, Combat Arms is a far superior game that you should try if you're looking to waste some time on a free game.
