BF1943 Delayed on PC to Make it Better

BF1943

There was a quiet announcement last week that while Battlefield 1943 was going to be coming out for PS3 and Xbox 360 in June, the PC version was going to be delayed at least until September. Beyond the reason that it takes a bit more time to develop it properly for PC, no other reasons were given for the release discrepancy.

Yesterday, DICE fleshed out some of what is behind the delay and part of it is the complexity of the variable PC environment but they say that they are making this fresh for PC and not merely porting the console game: ...we have some other requirements from the PC players. It is they who comment most on the web. We certainly do not want to make a discarded porting. It must feel like a real PC game. I can not go into details, but it will be more ... more than the console versions." He reveals that they look up possible alternatives to the regenerative health and ammo on the PC version. The he in this is DICE producer going by Wörtlich. This is good news because I'm expecting more than a port. This is as close as we're getting to a successor to BF2 (I don't count BF2142) until 2010 when Battlefield: Bad Company 2 comes to PCs. Also mentioned was the possibility that the PC version will support more than 24 players.

Lets see what action they take with servers though before we jump up and down in happiness. If they do not offer dedicated servers and this runs ad-hoc only, it's going to be epic fail.
