Here's a quote from the WSJ: "Mr. Oneda said Friday that the negative spread between the cost of producing its popular PlayStation 3 videogame console and its sales price had narrowed to about 10% to 12% and that he expected this to decline to the single digits by early next year."
So there you have it, Sony loses about $30 on every PS3 they sell. Look at it this way, in September Sony lost about $14,754,000 on its PS3 sales (of 491.8k using NPD Group's numbers). While the September numbers were higher because of the price drop, even if you take off 200k units and multiply that by 12 for the year Sony loses, in my quick calculation, around $104,760,000+ per year (12x291k) on their PS3s. Good thing the PS2 is still a big seller.
If you dont' have a one yet, you can get the PlayStation 3 for $299 at Amazon.
