In past years the most, and often the biggest, games were released in the fourth quarter just in time for holiday shoppers. This year was no exception with games like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Borderlands, MW2 and Assassins Creed II all being released for the busiest shopping time of year. Last year was just as bad and if you're an avid gamer it left you either sleepless or with quite a few games you were going to have to wait to play. After all, you only have so much money and time - neither is infinite.

Thankfully, the publishers are starting to realize that loading all of the biggest games into one 3 month span distorts their balance sheets and also forces consumers to make hard choices that could have some games not selling as much as they would if they weren't overshadowed by the crowd.





The first quarter of 2010 brings a refreshing change of pace with big name games on deck, some of which will be contender for a Game of the Year award. Take a look at the list below and be thankful that they weren't dumped into the 4th 1/4 2009. If you're like me there are at least five games on that list you want.
