In a bizarre call to 911, one mother had enough of her son's GTA playing habits. Apparently the 14 year old was caught playing at 2:30 AM after she told him to sleep hours earlier. Instead of shutting down the PS3 or popping the disc out... or even talking to her son rationally, the single mother of four calls the cops so they can deal with it.

Let's examine this one because there are over 200+ comments at the Boston Herald site reporting this story. Clearly she's not the best mother. Evidence A is the fact that her 14 year old had the game in the first place. Sure the store shouldn't have sold it to him but my guess is that she bought it for him - along with the $300 PS3. Evidence B would be the call to the police. In our crazy nanny-state country this is apparently the thing to do because people just can't accept any responsibility for their actions or of their kids.



I of course find video games to be the scape-goat here and this has nothing do with the "ultra violent" (as some commenters said) GTA. It's a mature game for a mature audience. The real issue we have here is a mother that cannot cope. She has a church support group - great, I'm calling BS on this too. Sounds like a bunch of Bible thumpers listening to her and going "Mmm hmmmmm!"

The story itself isn't as eye-opening as the ignorant comments spouting off the typical anti-video game tripe. Read a book says one, as if fine literature like Twilight is going to make you a better person. Here's another choice comment: "Lots of people overseas would rather study hard and make money than waste time playing video games and failing out of school." Right, and the Chinese and rest of Asia don't love their video games. I must have misread about the millions playing World of Warcraft or StarCraft or that video games were more or less born in Asia. My bad.

According to one poster video games will be the downfall of the western world. I don't agree with this, it's just entertainment so these clearly erudite people should shut their pie holes.

I think this comment sums it up the best: "Hello 911? I'm too stupid to parent, can you please send someone to do it for me?"
