I wrapped up the main campaign for Mass Effect 1 last night and it was a satisfying ending even though I punked out and played it on super-noob easy. I would feel bad but I was playing this one for the story and having to mash buttons to shoot even more baddies didn't seem warranted. Besides, I really don't want to think about how hard Saren would be on anything harder. Probably would have needed a bigger shotgun for that.
Anyway, as I've said I played this for the story but it's a bit disappointing that it was more derivative than I'd hoped it would be. What we essentially get here is Babylon 5 with the "first ones" and the Shadows and their agents.
There's also the Forerunners from Halo that make for a good comparison but really, that's just borrowing from Babylon 5 too.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the first couple of seasons of Bab5, at least until they concluded the Shadow War main arc. But for a game coming out more than a decade later you'd think they could have come up with a bit more to go on here.
Still, it was good enough for me. As for Mass Effect 2... maybe some dude will get to say, "...and so, it begins."
