Heads Up - Blizzard Sending Beta Codes Out Today for StarCraft II Beta

StarCraft II As promised during their quarterly earnings call, Blizzard started sending out the closed-beta invites today for StarCraft II - Wings of Liberty. If you submitted to get a code make sure you check your spam filter just in case. Hopefully they'll put the game into an open beta before releasing but there is no guarantee at this point.

Here's what Blizzard says about the beta

"Gathering concentrated feedback from our players is an important step for us as we head into the final stretch of development for StarCraft II and the new Battle.net service," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We look forward to having our players' help in polishing the overall experience and preparing for launch."

I can't help commenting on the game's subtitle... why did they even bother and what the heck were they thinking with "Wings of Liberty"? StarCraft II is more than enough of a title for this game.

Still no date for the final release beyond "mid-2010."
