Need for Speed World Races into Action in July with Pre-Order Bonuses and a Week's Head Start

EA has given the green light (or should I say checkered flag) to Need For Speed World with a launch date of July 20th. The hook of the racing game is that it's more socially integrated, uses power-ups like the newer racing games and has a more RPG-like progression with levels and unlocks. Still, it's just as much a NFS game as any of the other iterations in the franchise and that's a good thing. Gamers can get as social as they want but if the game fails to deliver on the core driving element what's the point?

Now with this leveling up RPG stuff you might expect to be grinding a lot like in MMO games and you'd be right; however, if you're the impatient type you can just buy your way up to level 50 with the Need for Speed World Start Pack that gives you some SpeedBoost, Nitrous and Traffic Magnet power-ups plus a limited edition car. In addition to these things you'll also get a week's head start on the game. All that for $19.99.

The limited edition cars are specific to the retailer:
  • EA Direct Download: Toyota Corolla AE86
  • GameStop: Volkswagon Scirocco
  • Best Buy and Impulse: Mazda 3
  • Direct2Drive: Nissan Silvia S1S

More about the game:

Players can compete against any one of their friends, family or pick from thousands of top ranked players to challenge in intense online battles and police pursuits across 150 miles of sprawling open world. Need for Speed World combines new content with the most popular cities from Need for Speed Most Wanted and Need for Speed Carbon to create the biggest, most exciting race world ever released in the Need for Speed universe.

I enjoy a good racing game, I was contemplating giving Split Second a go but my first love has somehow always been the NFS series.
