While one gets to be more tolerant of certain things I've found that I'm less tolerant and more emotional about other things now. When my wife was pregnant seeing a commercial for the ASPCA would have her in tears on the couch. Unstoppable empathetic tears. I thought she might run out and adopt all the dogs she could find. It saddened me and I wanted to help but I didn't have that instinct of wanting to protect the innocent animals like she did. When I used to read the news about something horrible happening to a child I was of course outraged at the criminal or circumstances. Now I find myself worrying more about the people that are left behind. That poor mother. That poor family, what a horrible thing. I can actually feel their pain, at least a little bit. Sooth the family first then get the person that did it and show no mercy.
Now that I have these contextual emotions based on my own kids and experiences as a father there are things I have zero tolerance for. Making light of a person's disability. Making fun of a person's accent or other things out of their control. Watching and participating in a game where the main plot centers around murdered children.

The site was started as many do, with a name. The name was born out of a gaming session and I thought it was funny enough to register the URL. Surprisingly nobody had bought this one before...
I was content to sit on the name and just think about goofs I could do with it when I got an itch I had to scratch. You see for gaming news sites there are couple of things you can do to promote stories and get visitors. You have the usual DIGG/Twitter/Facebook route or there is N4G. For better or worse N4G will get you a lot of hits providing you get your story up first and it gets approved.
Here's the rub with N4G, particularly lately; news is getting approved that is either crap, not the first post on the subject or your story might not get posted at all. The last two go hand-in-hand because it's become a problem at N4G when you submit an article that does not get approved yet someone that submits there's hours later manages to get it approved first. In theory that is not supposed to happen. Going back to the first point, N4G has more than the usual amount of crap with the fanboy articles taking over where real news used to be.

Now it's bad enough they made Shrek 3 because it was awful compared to the first two. I haven't fell asleep that many times trying to watch a movie ever. After several attempts I finally made it through the movie and realized I'll never be able to get those minutes of my life back and that's just sad.

Forget about the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 - the PC is still the best platform for games. The PC is better because it's infinitely upgradable compared to a console, it's got more capabilities and options, it has better multiplayer options and you can use it to do other things. If you think about what the console makers are doing right now you'll realize that they are trying to turn them into PCs. All of the major consoles now allow you to do things that are essentially native to PCs or originated with them. Netflix, browsers, Voip, online communities... sure, all things that PCs have done first and still do better. Now they are also coming up with ways to turn consoles into DVRs, another area the PC has covered. You can be forgiven if you start wondering why consoles exist in the first place then if all of this can be done on a PC already. It comes down to scale, control over the platform and price.
