The PC is Still the Best Gaming Platform

PC is the best gaming platformForget about the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 - the PC is still the best platform for games. The PC is better because it's infinitely upgradable compared to a console, it's got more capabilities and options, it has better multiplayer options and you can use it to do other things. If you think about what the console makers are doing right now you'll realize that they are trying to turn them into PCs.

All of the major consoles now allow you to do things that are essentially native to PCs or originated with them. Netflix, browsers, Voip, online communities... sure, all things that PCs have done first and still do better. Now they are also coming up with ways to turn consoles into DVRs, another area the PC has covered. You can be forgiven if you start wondering why consoles exist in the first place then if all of this can be done on a PC already. It comes down to scale, control over the platform and price.

The Vehicles of Battlefield: Bad Company 2

BFBC2 Vodnik BFBC2 not only has a huge number of guns (45 - see them here) but it also has some vehicles that drive, float or fly. There are 14 vehicles in total and they include the BF2 favorites like the Vodnik (aka Ice Cream truck), jetskis (remember playing Special Forces in BF2?) and the Blackhawk.

One thing you won't find in BFBC2 that will either make you jump for joy or cry into your beer are jets. There are only choppers, no more jets to worry about raping you as you just try to run around happily grabbing flags. I think you can see where I fall on the topic.

Take a look below for the full array of BFBC2 vehicles you can expect when the game launches on March 2nd for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Full Array of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Weapons

BFBC2 Weapons and images I've been a little busy-beaver this morning churning out some BFBC2 stuff like the overview and objective maps posted earlier. In addition to those, here are all of the weapons you can expect to find in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 when the game ships on March 2nd.

In total there are 62 items including the gadgets that for some reason includes rocket launchers along with sensors. For guns, the total available in the game right now is 45 which is pretty damn good. I will say I'm a little annoyed that they left out two BF2 mainstays like the G36-E and the L85A1. Now I'm a stock gun kind of guy and will stick with the M16 or whatever stock gun is available for the different kits but still, I enjoyed spicing it up every now and then.

In case you were wondering, the promised addition of the BF1943 guns was fulfilled with the 45 pistol, M1A1 Tommy gun and the M1 Garand all appearing in the images below. You might also be happy to know that the M95 Barrett will still be able to shoot pilots out of the cockpit - the only gun you can do that with.

Instead of breaking this up into 8 separate posts, one for each category, I'm being lazy and will dump them all right in this one so check them out below.

All Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Maps Revealed

BFBC2 maps - Laguna Presa Conquest Battlefield: Bad Company 2 hits the streets on March 2nd and can now be demoed on the PS3 and Xbox 360 or if you pre-ordered the game, beta-tested on the PC. At this point we've seen just two maps; the first was Arica Harbor on the PS3 beta a few months ago. Currently, the demos and PC beta are showing Port Valdez. That's just 2 out of the 8 known maps that are shipping with BFBC2.

While some might say that 8 is not a huge number you should remember that these maps are a lot bigger than you're used to if you only play games like MW2 or even Killzone 2 - much bigger.

The eight maps are:
  • Arica Harbor
  • Atacam Desert
  • Isla Inocentes
  • Laguna Presa
  • Panama Canal
  • Port Valdez
  • Valparaso
  • White Pass
The maps come in two varieties - Conquest or Rush - but not all are made with both modes in mind. Right now only Laguna Presa and Port Valdez will be available in both Conquest and Rush modes; the other maps are either one or the other but I'm sure that will change either DLC or with the final shipping version (you never know.)

For you viewing pleasure, take a look below for the maps and their respective game modes.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be released on March 2, 2010.
