Modern Combat: Sandstorm iPhone Review

I'm not really a huge mobile gamer. Yes I have a couple on my iPhone but I don't really play them all that often. The simple truth is I really feel hampered by the small form factor and the lack of buttons. Every now and then though a game catches my eye and I give it a try. That happened yesterday when I saw Modern Combat: Sandstorm from Gameloft.

The game is a military-styled FPS with pretty much all you'd expect to come with that. You get guns and grenades to shoot the enemy; you can run, climb up, climb down and crouch just like in the bigger games. There is little in the feature set that says this is a mobile game aside from the controls.

Why Do We Play Games?

why do we play games? Odd question but with a lack of robust news today I thought I would post some nonsense... I mean a thought provoking look at why we play games.

The idea of games must go back to beyond recorded history; it's something that's just ingrained in our makeup, in our DNA. Why we play games is more complicated and maybe the true answer is ethereal. However, you can get a glimpse of one reason we play if you watch animals. With animals, play is often used to hone skills or reflexes they need to survive. You can see this most obviously with puppies and kittens. Jumping, dodging, biting and kicking - all skills that need to be perfected.

5 Video Game Heroes You Don't Want as Club Wingmen

This is an odd sort of list but have you ever wondered about what it would be like to go out to a bar or club with some of the characters you play in the games? If you're a bit off like me then the answer is, of course all the time.

After pondering the question for a bit I came up with a short list of five dudes you don't want to bring with you to meet some ladies.

Sure they can kick some ass, but can they get some?

The Tony Hawk Ride Skateboard Bundle Is Proving to Be a Huge Sales Flop

Tony Hawk Ride with motion sensing skateboard It looks like Tony Hawk Ride with its sensor-enabled skateboard is not selling well at all. Having the game only work with the pricey peripheral was a gamble that Activision was ready to take given the strong brand recognition skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has but even that may prove to not be enough. The game-board bundle sells for around $120 which is twice the price the game would be without the board.
