Build an Egyptian Empire on Your iPhone

History Egypt Engineering for iPhone I've got an iPhone 3GS and an iPad so I'm no stranger to checking out the App Store for new games. Unfortunately, I've just never really felt the games were worth the money, they didn't work on the platform or were not interesting enough to stick with. It's not that I'm a pain in the butt (OK, I am), it's just that trying to hold onto the rail in the subway with one hand and play with the other can be hard and that's just with the iPhone. Clearly RTS games are just out of the question but maybe a turn-based strategy game isn't.

This is where History Egypt Engineering and Empire comes in (iPad version is planned and should release in a few months the developer says). The game is based off of the larger PC game of the same name. While it's essentially a sort-of port, a turn-based game has a natural pause that works for commuting or multitasking like playing and answering email. Here's a little about the game

Empires are controlled from three main views: the Campaign Map shows the entire game world, including mountains, forests, coastlines, oceans, rivers, cites, and armies. The City Map gives players an overview of the structure and role of a city within the empire, and provides a basis for economic decisions. The Battle Map is to be used when diplomacy has run its course or when a city is being attacked, resulting in turn-based combat.

Check out the images below and maybe give the game a try because it's only $3.99.

Yeah Nexus One blah, blah, blah but can you play Quake 3 on it? Sure you can.

Let's face it, Google's HTC made Nexus One is a good phone with incredibly poor sales. People bemoan the lack of Palm Pre sales but that has an exponentially better track record than the Google phone. With that in mind you can see why people dismiss the phone out of hand but this video will show you why maybe you shouldn't do that.

Apple Announces XBLIVE-like Game Center for iDevices

Scroller Image Even though Nintendo doesn't seem to think Apple and their iDevices are much of a threat the reality is different - people are playing games on them and will increasingly do so. Apple has finally decided to formalize their acceptance of gaming and is going to be launching an actual gaming service akin to PSN and XBLIVE to give iPad, iPhone and iTouch users are singular gaming experience. At least I hope they take it this seriously and don't go the Games for Windows route of instant obscurity.

Entitled Game Center, the new service will include a social gaming network, matchmaking, friend invites and tracking, leaderboards and finally their very own achievement system.

Aside from an image or three there was little else revealed about the Game Center but you have to think Nintendo knows enough to keep it's mouth shut now.

Squenix Confirms Final Fantasy I & II Coming to iPhone

Scroller Image  Wow, I knew that there were a lot of older games being ported to the iPhone but I didn't expect to see Final Fantasy 1 and 2. Square Enix confirmed via Twitter and Facebook that both of the classic games are being made for the iPhone and iPod Touch 23 years after the first game appeared.

While details are scarce at this point, Squenix did post two images from each FF iPhone version (see below). At this point there is still no release time-frame but I'll be sure to let you know when a date magically appears.
