New LEGO Universe Images to Celebrate the Game's Gold Status

LEGO Universe I've been showing you images of the LEGO MMO aptly entitled LEGO Universe for over a year now and it finally seems as if the game might be getting released soon. According to the publisher, the game has gone gold and they are celebrating by dumping 24 new images on the world. The release date is slated as being October 26th and with the new Gold status it looks like it's going to hit that date after all.

StarCraft II Saves PC Gaming with 3+ Million Sold in First Month

StarCraft II To all the people that have been pointing at the decline of PC game sales as proof that the PC just isn't a viable platform for gaming any longer I'd like to say STFU. I can say this because Blizzard just announced that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has sold over 3 million copies in its first month. That makes it the best selling PC game of 2010 so far and the fastest selling RTS ever. The numbers are impressive, especially if you look at some of the first week figures provided by Blizzard; Day one sales were over 1 million and hit 1.5 million within 48 hours.

Does this really prove that PC gaming isn't dead? Well, I never said it was so there's nothing to prove. Of course having a hot game that fans have been waiting years for helps. Perhaps the key is making good games for the PC market, games specifically designed for PCs and not ports of console games that are buggy as hell. Yep, that's exactly what we need but are you listening game devs?

Kinect Joy Ride Says Look at Mii

Kinect Joy Ride I've got the latest screenshots from Microsoft's incoming Kinect racer Joy Ride. If you think it looks a lot like a Wii game I would agree with you. Of course the Xbox 360 is pumping out graphics in HD though, if that's some sort of consolation prize. The game also utilizes a gamer's avatar in the game like a Wii does.

I still don't know what to make of Kinect. I do like the name but I just don't see this being a huge seller - especially priced at $150.

Joy Ride and the Kinect system are set to hit the streets on November 4th.

PlayStation 3 Getting Mass Effect 2 After All

Mass Effect 2 for PS3 The idea had been floated around but largely discounted that Mass Effect 2 would head outside the Microsoft Windows/Xbox world - looks like everyone was wrong. EA announced today that Mass Effect 2 will be hitting the PS3 January 2011. Here's the word about what PS3 gamers can expect:

The PlayStation 3 edition will include the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content, making this the perfect introduction to BioWare’s award-winning action RPG franchise.

They can also expect the trophies offered will be the same as the Xbox achievements you can see here.

Microsoft and Old Ensemble Team Launching Age of Empires Online

Age of Empires Online In pretty exciting news, Microsoft has announced revamped versions of their classic Age of Empires and Flight games. The news came out of Gamescom 2010 and as geeky as it is I'm stoked.

Age of Empires Online has a new look that I doubt you can complain about because it looks better than the old school Age of Kings most people are used to (let's face it, that was the last good one in the series). They added some new features too that sound very interesting indeed, almost MMO-like:
  • A persistent online capitol city that lives and grows even when you’re offline
  • Cooperative multiplayer quests, trading and a level-based system that lets you progress at your own pace
Helping to make sure that the game is a winner, 75% of the Ensemble staff is onboard with Microsoft on this. If you're unaware, that's the original developer of the AoE series (last seen dying with Halo Wars for Xbox 360.) While the game hasn't launched yet, you can hit up the official (ageofempiresonline.com)site to sign up for the beta.

As to the question of cost, well that's interesting. They say you'll be able to play online for free but the official FAQ says pricing is TBD at this point. Target release date - 2011.
