n-Space Developing Call of Duty: Black Ops for DS with 6-Player MP and Co-op Play

COD Black Ops for Nintendo DS Activision released some info on their Nintendo DS version of COD Black Ops today. Going with the same name but being developed by n-Space, the DS version will have six-player MP, a Perks system and two player Co-op, Arcade and Challenge game modes. Launch date for the game will be November 9th.
One thing they failed to mention though was whether this would be in 3D for the upcoming 3DS.

Here's some official copy from Activision:

Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Nintendo DS will put gamers in the boots of CIA-backed operatives that are dropped into the shadowy world of deniable operations with an expansive arsenal of weapons at their disposal.

“Call of Duty: Black Ops for the Nintendo DS is going to take the handheld Call of Duty experience to a new level,” said Dan O’Leary, n-Space Studio Head. “From taking the controls of an attack helicopter to flying an experimental stealth fighter jet, players will have a wealth of new features to utilise.”

E3 2010 - Nintendo Finally Unveils 3DS

Nintendo 3DS - Image credit Kotaku Nintendo finally got around to announcing the 3DS after showing some new Zelda, Mario and Donkey Kong games.

The new DS will have built-in 3D capabilities via a slider that controls the "depth" of view which is interesting and I wonder if some games have a set default that you can't change and if the slider isn't for legacy DSi games.

Remember, this unit will display 3D without the need for glasses - that's the hook.

Here are the things we know right now about the 3DS:
  • Has 3D slider for depth
  • Has a analog stick nub
  • Two screens with bottom being the traditional touchpad
  • It has two cameras on the outside for 3D pictures
  • Has one camera facing player for video chat
  • Sports a gyroscope and a motion sensor
  • It'll play 3D movies
What don't we know right now? Well, we don't have a release schedule or a price.

EA Dragging Out Gretzky and a Hockey Stick Controller for Their First Wii Hockey Game - NHL SLAPSHOT

NHL SLAPSHOTEA is going to release their first NHL game for the Wii and they're dragging out Wayne Gretzky for the cover and as a player skin. NHL SLAPSHOT, why all caps I have no idea, is a hockey game that comes with a "revolutionary" hockey stick controller for motion control. I'm not sure why you'd need it because of the Wiimote but there must be some sort of good reason for what seems like duplication of effort here but all I have is a quote from a press release that explains it but doesn't:

“Making our games as close to the real thing has always been our focus,” says Creative Director, David Littman. “Now we are giving them an actual plastic hockey stick that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers plug into. Players can then use the new NHL  SLAPSHOT Hockey Stick to do all the moves in the game.”

I'm sure this will sell more than Tony Hawk's latest game with the fancy skateboard controller but I don't see why it's really needed given the Wii has a built in controller for motion-based gaming.

I'll post more when I get some answers.

Super Scribblenauts Features Better Controls and Adjective Combos

Super Scribblenauts I've got the latest screenshots coming out of the next Scribblenauts for DS smartly entitled Super Scribblenauts. It's the same game but superized... or something like that.

All-new for Super Scribblenauts, players now have the ability to write any object that comes to mind and modify it in any way they desire using adjectives to reach the goal in many levels. Adjectives can change the colour, size, style, behaviours and many other aspects of the object they are describing. Multiple adjectives can be combined together to produce incredibly creative objects, such as gentlemanly, flaming, flying zombies and purple, obese, winged elephants, allowing the player’s imagination to run wild for an even more inspired and individual experience than ever before.

It is a fun game but I'm stuck wondering why they haven't made, or are announcing, an iPad version. Fingers crossed they'll wise up soon.

Super Scribblenauts is supposed to hit Autumn 2010 for Nintendo DS.
